Emperor is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1991. They are regarded as highly influential to emerging black metal bands. They were active for a little under a decade, due to some of their members being incarcerated for murder and arson of churches. They regrouped for very brief periods to play small tours but never recorded any new music during that time. Their members were all devoted pagans and Satanists, and most of their music is steeped in the culture of Nordic Paganism.
