The celebrated socio-political figure Gandhi was born Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in 1869. He was a notable Indian activist who was known primarily for his nonviolent approach to protesting the British colonization and occupation of his native India. He traveled around for a while to both South Africa and London, studying law and politics, before returning to India in 1915. A few years after, he would join a committee that advocated for Indian Independence and would help negotiate the terms of their independence from Britain. Gandhi began advocating for independence in as early as 1920, but would not have the wish fulfilled for almost three decades before the crown finally released the country in 1947.
