"Lawless Darkness" is Watain's 4th album that was released in 2010. The lead singer has said that the record is meant to be an expression about liberating all bonds. To question everything around you, and to break down all barriers that are inside of you. He also described the album as a "thorough musical exploration of the dark side", and explained that most of the lyrics are based on the exploration, glorification, and adoration of the Devil. It was recorded over a rather intense and chaotic period of two months, working every day and every night for sixty days in a row.
Watain is a Swedish black metal band, formed in 1998. They have become famous for their Theistic Satanist views and for their interactive live shows which involve pyrotechnics, candles, Satanic rituals, animal carcasses, and lots of blood. In fact, at a live performance in Brooklyn in 2014, they doused the audience members in animal blood, allegedly causing some fans to vomit. Watain's members are said to have killed pigeons and even attempted to buy dogs from the homeless as a source of blood for their concerts. However radical they may be during their performances, the band has publicly distanced themselves from and openly hate Antisemitism and far-right ideologies. They describe it as "one of the greatest evils that people today know." They continue to make music today, their most recent album "The Agony & Ecstasy of Watain" was released in April of 2022.
