Jimi Hendrix is known as one of the greatest guitar players the world has ever seen. He started playing at 15 and by the time he was doing gigs he could play with his teeth, behind his back, and upside down. Jimi dropped out of High School to enlist in the Army where he spent a little under a year before he broke his ankle and got discharged. After that, he began playing small gigs and was a backup guitarist for artists like Little Richard and The Isley Brothers. He moved to England in 1966 to chase his dreams, and was found by the manager of The Animals in a local pub playing his insane riffs. Later that year he went on to produce and record some of his most popular hits like "Hey Joe", "Purple Haze", and "The Wind Cries Mary". He blew up all over Europe and then the following year in America after playing at the Monterey Music Festival in California. By the time he was headlining the legendary 1969 Woodstock Festival he was the highest-paid performer in the world. Jimi Hendrix is known for his heavy use of psychedelics and advocacy against the war. His music was written and inspired by his dream state. He was friends with the Beatles and covered their songs at live shows often. He sadly passed away at age 27, and though his mainstream career only lasted 4 years, his music will live on forever.
