Arguably one of the greatest and most infamous bands to come out of the nineties, Nirvana has influenced modern rock in a way that few other bands can claim. Nirvana brought an innovative, raw, and emotional sound to a genre that had just barely started to scratch the surface of it's own possibilities. Grunge rock and alternative rock had just barely started seeping into the mainstream when Nirvana burst down the door and paved the way for many other artists to start gaining wider audiences. Following the death of lead singer Kurt Cobain in 1993, Nirvana ascended into a legendary status that hasn't at all faded over the years.
