Paul McCartney’s third studio album with backing band Wings, “Band on the Run,” would be Paul’s most successful and celebrated album post-Beatles. Critics largely dismissed his previous four solo albums but embraced this one album pointing towards tracks like “Jet” and the self-titled “Band on the Run.” Weirdly, Paul thought recording the album in Lagos, Nigeria would be an “exotic” experience but it proved problematic. The country was coming out of a brutal civil war that ended in military rule, as well as the proliferation of disease and famine. Needless to say, the experience was “exotic” because he found himself mugged, was accused of stealing local music and had subpar studio equipment.
