"The Lord of the Rings" is a fantastical adventure series first published in 1954 by J.R.R. Tolkien. The series is prefaced with "The Hobbit," and collectively follows the journey of a group of hobbits, elves, and humans (oh my!) to destroy an all-powerful ring that is doomed to destroy the earth. Along the way, the group finds alluring oracles, vicious monsters, and dangerous allies.
